Is it really August 1st? How can that be?
Hang on, everyone, not much time to go, and we still want to enjoy each summer day and this glorious heat, don't we? |

However...the Another World Ep heralded a truly beautiful album in The Crying Light so here's hoping. |
i agree with sheila
in the same time, maybe my opinion will change when it will be released
but as i said, the problem to me is that i don't like the recurrent references to God, it's becoming really boring to me .. sorry |

| it seems weird to cast out these judgments so soon. I know my feelings are going to change once I have all the songs and listen to them with time. |

| i-Am-devoted-now.. wrote: | | I think overall, mcarli, you seem to have assumed that I'm being unfair in using my critical faculties. Of course, its a "fucking new Antony EP", and I wouldn't be here and sharing my initial thoughts on these new snippets (which you eloquently screamed of "SOMETHING THAT HASN'T EVEN BEEN RELEASED YET"; note to lirazel: 'you can really write man'?), if I weren't a huge fan of Antony's work. You think its unfair that I decided to share early feelings about the EP based on the terrible-low-fi-snippets, because Antony would be disheartened? I think its unfair that it seems to me by leaping straight to Antony's defense in a rather uncritical manner, your shooting down of my comments renders them dead. I cannot understand why everybody thinks your posts are wonderful, because frankly, they're a bit ignorant, and a bit infantile. Say what you will, I'm sure you will have another 'great post' up your sleeve. |
Yes, I do think you're being "unfair in using your critical facilities." So we have low-fi 30-second previews of songs Antony and his record label haven't even said anything about... how would any well-informed criticism come of that? I stand by that Antony deserves my defense in this matter... I just don't think it's fair to judge his work under these circumstances. And I can hardly see how that is "ignorant" of me- I know Antony would never want that. I don't understand how anyone here would disagree with that. Wouldn't you be embarrassed for Antony to see you saying that? Regardless, I know I would be embarrassed for Antony, or anyone else on JOS for that matter, to see us arguing like this... so I want to apologize to you for coming across so nastily... I'm sorry to have snapped back so quickly at you. I do have a bad habit of jumping on things like this (silvestar, lizarel ) and coming across really negatively, but I bring these things up for discussion because, in part, that's what this forum is for. That being said, I don't take lightly being called "infantile" for this, I don't think I'm giving my opinion on this in an immature or inconsiderate way. Was that something about my age, too? I hope not, and I'm grateful for those of you who already defended me there. That would be a little unfair, don't you think? I won't presume anything, though.
I also stand by that this EP is not a wholesome way to judge Swanlights until I hear Antony say himself that it's such. I'm assuming Antony knows better than we do right now what the album sounds like and how to describe it.
I would never raise a fist to anyone on this board sharing his or her opinion on Antony's work- I relish the opportunity to discuss such things here, and always have. I guess it's unfortunate that I can't defend my own "critical facilities" until the release. There are probably some things I'll find myself criticizing on August 30th, too (can't say I'm very excited about an "Imagine" cover... but we'll see!) but today just isn't the time for that. I can say though, that there's a lot I'm excited about: a Swanlights track, a studio version of the beloved "You Are the Treasure," a re-release of one of my very favorite Antony songs of all time ("My Lord My Love," which I certainly think earns its place on an EP after many people may have missed it when it was a digital-only TCL bonus track).
I don't want to cause animosity over what is supposed to be such a happy and exciting event for us all! I just want to show Antony the respect he deserves from us before discussing his work (so greatly) out of context. That's the only reason I so quickly defended him- it made me uncomfortable to think we'd be so judgmental so quickly.
I'll leave you guys with some very exciting info on "Fletta" from none other than... Bjork!! (I don't think it's been posted yet, my bad if it has)

ON WORKING WITH ANTONY AND STREAMING ENERGY BACK
Then the Antony thing came up a bit differently. When I was making Volta, I rented a studio in Jamaica for a month and invited him for a visit, and to sing with me on ‘Dull Flame Of Desire’. We spent a few days singing together, and during that time he wrote a piano song that I sang over in gibberish Icelandic, you know, that hazy undefined scratch vocal you make when you’re coming up with a melody
-What, you mean Hopelandic?
Well, it sounds really new age-y [laughs], but when I’m writing a melody I’ll generally just start off with sounds and empty vowels. Then I write a lyric and sing that. I’ve always respected Jónsi for daring to leave it at that first stage. But anyway, I was improvising over his piano track, coming up with a melody. After I went to bed, Antony stayed up all night, recording vocals and harmonising all my gibberish with these lush four part harmonies, effectively making a choir out of it. When I woke up in the morning, he told me he wanted to play me something. I was really honoured when I heard his work. And the track is great. It’s him singing in Icelandic, even if he has no idea what he’s singing about.
Afterwards, we didn’t really know what to do with the track. It was completely different from the rest of his album, a tiny accident. In the end, I told him: “This is your song, you do with it as you please.”
It’s been a while since we recorded it. It was during Easter of 2006. So this is a four-year-old song. I am very happy that he finally used it, I was always very thankful that he made the trip to Jamaica to make a song with me, and it is beautiful that we can stream the energy back and he can use something from the sessions. It is all very healthy. |
So it was true, what some of us had expected!- "Fletta" is from the Volta sessions! This is one of the most exciting things I have ever waited for... OMG
EDIT: this was posted already, in the Swanlights thread (where it belongs, haha) but no one has responded to it yet! So I'll leave it in this post as well in hopes of everyone reading this veeeeery exciting little blurb |

By the way, what do we all think of the cover? |
I quite like it. I am sure that once we hear the story surrounding the artist/photographer, all will become clear!!! |
